Igor A. Goidenko
(05.09.1968 - 03.01.2012)
Associate Professor
Igor A. Goidenko began his education in the University of Kazan and continued it in the Leningrad State University. After graduation in 1994 from the Physics Department (Division of Quantum Mechanics) he studied three more years in the graduate school. His research adviser was Prof. Leonti N. Labzowsky, and in 1997 I.A. Goidenko got his PhD. The main area of his research interests was quantum electrodynamics of heavy atoms and ions. It concerned hyperfine structure of energy levels and various gyromagnetic characteristics of atoms as well as parity-nonconservation effects. I.A. Goidenko was a talented and experienced scientist, capable of solving complicated problems of theoretical physics. The results of his research are well known not only in Russia but also abroad, his papers were published in prestigious scientific journals. He maintained collaboration with research institutions in Germany and Finland and took part in many international conferences. He was preparing a thesis to get the Doctor of Science degree but was killed in a car accident on January 3, 2012. Igor A. Goidenko paid much attention to teaching. He taught a general course on Quantum Mechanics as well as an advanced course on Quantum Theory of Angular Momentum, for the students specializing in Quantum Mechanics. Many students have completed their qualification work and got bachelor or master degrees under his supervision. Since 2005 until his death I.A.Goidenko worked as a scientific secretary of the Quantum Mechanics Division and carried out his duties with great honesty and patience. We will remember him as a very conscientious and friendly person always ready to help his colleagues.
